INTEGRATION BETWEEN BUSINESS AND NATURE
The new FIVE factory represents industrial excellence since it is a building that does not need any other energy source than the one it self-produces through a dual photovoltaic system.
How is it that the energy produced is sufficient for the annual needs?
The energy balance is intermediated by the network: excess energy is networked, where the same amount is collected at moments of increased production intensity. To achieve this energy balance, technological structure is an important part of the project. The LED lighting, for example, uses the latest discoveries of lighting technology to drastically reduce power consumption.
For heating, FIVE uses Mitsubishi Heavy Industries heat pumps, with the peculiarity of obtaining energy recovery inside the same building: heat is subtracted from the areas exposed to the sun, to be released to the areas that need heating. Also for water heating, the structure uses heat pumps, which recover the exhausted air from the bathrooms. This air is channeled, but it is cooled before it is ejected, and the heat extracted by heat pump warms the water inside the tank.
Moreover, with regard to innovative technologies, the first CO2 heat pump [Q-ton of MHI], with zero effects on global warming, has been installed in the production area. This appliance warms up the room by floor heating panels, ensuring low consumption. The use of these technologies allows a significant reduction in electrical consumption for equal heating power output.
In FIVE factory, the assembly chain and the paint system are integrated into a single rotary system: this means that it is possible to mount the bicycles in the same circuit leading the frame to the paint ovens, accumulating in the same system also the components’ storage of raw frames waiting for the manufacturing. It is therefore a very advanced system allowing to assemble, paint and store the semi-finished product. The painting ovens, strictly water, consume energy that is afterwards recovered through a heat exchanger, for the benefit of winter heating.
